The Composite Course came into being in 1959 when the Royal Melbourne Golf Club was asked to hold the Canada Golf Cup (now the World Cup).Influenced by his time with Dr Mackenzie, Mr Alex Russell designed the East Golf Course. This West Golf course was designed in 1926 by the renowned Scottish golf architect, Dr Alister Mackenzie.

The Royal Melbourne Golf Club has three golf courses, the East, West, and Composite golf courses; has allocated above.

The golf club also sports its' very own golf pro shop, offering golfing apparel, accessories, headwear, etc.
