JOHNNIE WALKER TITLE CLAIMED BY MARK BROWN 3 March 2008 – On Sunday, the Johnnie Walker Classic title was claimed, with a 3 shot victory, by Mark Brown from New Zealand.
In the past few weeks, this is Brown’s second international title victory; his first coming in his victory at the Asian Tour’s SAIL Open in India. Tying for second position after a great round on Saturday, just one shot behind the Japanese leader Taichiro Kiyoto, Brown managed to push a final round of 5-under-par 67, to take the victory with a birdie on the 18th hole. With 18-under-par 270, Brown’s victory gave to him the winnings of $407 743, and European Tour playing exemption. For Brown, who had worked extremely hard for this, it is a dream come true. Tying for second position, all on 15-under-par 273 were Greg Chalmers and Scott Strange of Australia, and the fallen leader Kiyoto. In fifth position were Graeme Storm, Johan Edfors, and Shir Kapur. As was the case with last year’s winner from South Africa Anton Haig, Brown’s claim on the Johnnie Walker title was a great surprise. We expect to see great things from this golfer for the remainder of the season. |
