INDIAN MASTERS TITLE TAKEN BY A FORMER CADDIE 11 February 2008 – It was yesterday in New Delhi, with a 5-under-67 in his bogey-free final round, that Shir Chowrasia, a former caddie, grabbed the title for the Indian Masters golf tournament.
With a 7-under par 277, just two strokes ahead of Damien McGrane of Ireland, who finished a 7-under par 281, this is Chowrasia first ever European title win. "This is the biggest achievement of my life, it's beyond my expectations," said Chowrasia. "I can't describe my emotions as it hasn't quite sunk in yet," Chowrasia said. "Playing the last few holes, I realised the title was within my grasp. Jose Manuel Lara of Spain placed himself in the third position with a 5-under par 283, while tied in fourth was Raphael Jacquelin of France and local Digvijay Singh. A five-way tie for the sixth position was shared by South African legend Ernie Els, Ross McGowan, Thomas Bjorn, Gaurav Ghie, and Maarten Lafeber. |
