1ST PGA TITLE FOR BRIAN GAY

27 February 2008 – On Sunday, Brian Gay managed to claim the victory at the Mayakabo Classic in Mexico, giving to him his first ever US PGA Golf Tour career title.

Gay took the victory on one-under 69 with 2-strokes ahead of Steve Marino, who closed with 66 for 266.

Gay took full advantage of the absence of some of the world’s top golfers, who were competing for the Match Play Championship.

Scoring four birdies, one on the seventh, eight, eleventh, and thirteenth holes, hereby allowing him to balance a trio of bogeys.

Gay took a bogey on the seventeenth hole, and was slightly concerned to see Marino birdie the eighteenth hole, closing his lead to a mere 2-strokes.

However, closing with a par, Brian Gay still walked away with the $630 000 first prize victory.

Tied for third position on 12-under 268 were John Merrick and Matt Kucher.

Taking fifth place was Cliff Kresge.
