GOLFER OF THE YEAR

21 February 2008 – At this year’s Compleat Golfer’s annual SA Golf Awards Dinner, which was recently held in Midrand, Johannesburg, at Vodaworld, the prestigious golfer of the year award went to rising star Richard Sterne, for his outstanding achievements in the 2007 golfing season.

Starting the year off ranked just outside of the top 20, within 6 months Sterne had managed to play himself into the top 50.

Sterne was unable to accept this great honour in person as he is currently competing in the WGC-Accenture Match Play in the US. Sterne also claimed his spot to compete at the Masters this coming April.

Some of the presenters at this prestigious ceremony included the likes of Arnold Geerdts from Supersport, Sally Little, a legend in women’s golfing, and Denis Hutchenson.

Receiving the award for Ladies Amateur of the year was Ashleigh Simon, even though turning pro in July of last year.

Recognising  his 40 years achievement in professional golfing, a special award was presented to John Bland.

Junior golfer of the year award went to Dylan Fritelli.
