SURPRISES AT THIS YEAR’S JOHANNESBURG OPEN 11 January 2008 – With wet conditions making it difficult for even the most top-notch golfer to take on a good game of golf, Tyrone Ferreira, one still fairly new to the professional golfing scene, took a share in the lead with Mark Murless in the opening round of the Johannesburg Open yesterday.
Closing round one with six-under 65, Murless and Ferreira lead Ross McGowan, Sion Bebb, and Pablo Larrazabal all by one stroke. The number of seven players all closed on 67. On his taking the surprise lead in yesterday’s tournament Ferreira commented that he though level par would be fine, but then the putts just started to drop. Murless was also heard saying,” I missed a few opportunities on the last two holes and the par-5 15th. I had a metre or less for birdie on 15 and missed that and then missed birdie opportunities on the last two. If I had knocked those in it would have been a special one, but I'm happy with the round especially in the conditions." With the weather continuing to be wet and miserable, let us see what surprises will be in store for us today. |
