KAYMER WINS BMW INTERNATIONAL OPEN 24 June 2008 – Defeating his rival Anders Hansen in a sudden-death play-off on Sunday, Martin Kaymer took the victory of the BMW International Open.
Leading by 6 strokes when going into the final round, Kaymer needed a birdie on the 72nd hole in order to match Hansen’s 15-under-par 273. With another birdie on the 1st extra hole, Kaymer took the total winnings of the $517 600 first prize, and hereby achieving his second title victory of the year. It was not an easy feat for Kaymer however, and Hansen put continuous pressure on this German youngster throughout the duration of the tournament. Sharing third position at 13-under were John Bickerton, Mark Foster, and Paul Casey. |
