JONES LEAD PEBBLE BEACH NATIONAL PRO-AM 8 February 2008 – It was the American Kent Jones who took the lead at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament with one shot, ahead of some of the biggest names in the golf business.
Jones managed to clear a six-under-par 66 in the opening round at Pebble Beach Golf Links yesterday, one of three venues being used during this tournament. Enjoying a bogey-free opening round, Jones said that he got through the back nine before the wind really started blowing. "Getting under par early helps you relax on the greens here at Pebble and I putted great today”, Jones said. Jones, whose best PGA Tour finish was a sixth place tie at the 2006 Lumber Classic, did not expect to putt as well as he did, and to him this was a great surprise. The next three rounds will be played on the three venues by the 180 amateurs and 180 professionals before the 60 golfers who qualify can play the final round at the Pebble Beach golf course on Sunday. |
