HISTORICAL FIRST ROUND IN LADIES AFRICAN TOUR 18 March 2008 – The first round of the Telkom Women’s Classic saw records tumble as the Norwegian Marianne Skarpnord took to the greens of the Zwartkops country club yesterday.
Not only did Skarpnord manage to score 62, 10-under-par (with compliments of the only eagle for the day), a career best for her, but she also achieved the best first round score ever to be recorded in the Ladies African Tour. “I just played shot for shot. I am ready to do it all again tomorrow, more birdies and perhaps another eagle”, Skarpnord said. Yesterday saw Lisa Holm Sorensen from Denmark, only four shots behind Skarpnord, battle a bit, as the African heat started taking its toll, but she says that she is not ready to give up quite yet, and is looking to take home the title. Placing just six shots behind Skarpnord is the South African leader Caryn Louw, who was able to card a first round score of 68. One shot behind Louw, Marne Roos, lead the amateurs with a first round of 69. |
