UNEXPECTED VICTORY FOR LOWERY

12 February 2008 – It has been exciting to say the least at this year’s Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament, which ended off on Sunday with Steve Lowery from America taking his first ever PGA Title win, defeating previous champion in 2004, Vijay Singh, who finished on 10-under-par 278.

Lowery won the cheque for $1.08 m by birdying the first extra hole on the 18th green of the Pebble Beach Golf Links golf course. This is Lowery’s third tour victory.

Coming tied for third were John Mallinger, Corey Pavin, and Dudley Hart.

Lowery, who is currently ranked 305th in the world, seemed to just take the title out of the hands of the 11th ranked golfer in the world, Singh, who seemed to have the victory in the bag until hitting his way onto a greenside bunker on the last hole.

Finally, in the end, all that Singh could do was to watch Lowery putt his way onto victory, who shot a remarkable 4-under-par 68.
