MONTGOMERIE HEADING FOR GOLD

The first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play at Dove Mountains’ Gallery Golf Club, which took place on the 19 February 2008, saw Coil Montgomerie from Britain thrashing the American Jim Furyk, 3-2.

Montgomerie, eight times European number one, and the golfer who is currently sitting on 62nd position in the world rankings, says that he is very, very happy about performance. "I'm in a lowly 62nd place right now and I'm not very happy about that," he said. "I've got to get my finger out and get going.

Montgomerie said that he has learnt that he can still compete and still play the game.  I've just beaten one of the US's top, top match players and toughest opponents”, Colin said, “and it's done wonders for me and done wonders for my confidence."

This victory will mean for Montgomerie that he will not miss out on an invitation to this year’s Masters, which, if he does, would only be to second time since his début in 1992.
