SA’S OWN SHAUN NORRIS WINS AFRICA OPEN 11 February 2008 – It was Shaun Norris from Pretoria who, winning with a total of 13-under-par 275, closing the final round of the tournament with a 4-under-par 68, made his memorable debut win at the inaugural Africa Open on the Sunshine Tour in Port Alfred on Sunday.
Landing in second position with a 69 on 7-under-par 281, 12 shots behind Norris, was Nic Henning, with Marc Cayeux, Jean Hugo, and Grant Muller following closely behind. Next, on 283, were Jeremy Kavanagh from England, Hennie Otto, Warren Abey, and Jake Roos. "I set myself a goal at the beginning of the week to stay calm and collected and to stick to a well-laid game-plan," said Norris. Norris attests much of his play to his father Patrick, saying, "My dad was a member at Humewood in Port Elizabeth in the 1970s and 80s. He taught me all I know about playing in the wind and is hugely responsible for this victory today." Expect great things from this up-and-coming South African golfing star. |
