OOSTHUIZEN THRASHES TELKOM CHAMPIONSHIP

25 February 2008 – The Telkom PGA Championship was won for the second consecutive time by Louis Oosthuizen at the Country Club Johannesburg yesterday.

Oosthuizen literally cleared the greens, taking the victory by 14 strokes, and finishing up on 28 under-par for a 72-hole aggregate of 260.

In second position with 14-under-par was Hennie Otto, followed by Jake Roos in third with 13-under-par, and Charl Schwartzel and Thabang Simon placing in fourth and fifth place respectively.

It was unfortunate for Oosthuizen that, due to being put on the clock for slow play, he missed the 29-under-par record of the Sunshine Tour, as set by Mark McNully, by a meager one shot; as this warning took a major impact on Oosthuizen’s focus.

"We've been playing slow the whole day," fumed Oosthuizen. "If they had warned us on say the eighth I could understand.”

Oosthuizen’s European season starts in Miami in three weeks time at the CA Championship; for which he qualified as the result of the top three position he achieved on the 2007 Sunshine Tour Order of Merit.
