PGA TOUR QUALIFYING POLICY AMENDED 28 February 2008 - The PGA Tour Qualification Policy has just recently been amended by giving golfers just on the cut line the chance to separate themselves from the rest of the pace through one more day of competition.
At the Honda Classic, starting this week, the PGA Tour will return to the traditional 36-hole cut for the top 70 and ties. In the case that over 78 golfers make the cut, another round will take place to narrow down the playing field. The overall purpose behind this change in policy goes to avoiding large fields on the weekend, which disrupts time of play, and a never-ending day of golf. Many a golfer has complained about not getting a good enough opportunity to move up in the leader board over the final two rounds, not only for the opportunity to get into the top ten, earning for themselves greatly important Ryder Cup or FedEx Cup points, but also for the opportunity to win. This decision was made on Monday by the 16-man Players Advisory Council in Florida at Riviera. Further considerations are being made to changing the second cut to 65 players and ties. |
