STERNE WINS JOBURG OPEN

14 January 2008 – South African Richard Sterne is the victor of the European Tour’s Joburg Open which was held this Sunday at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington club.

In a sudden death playoff against Sweden’s Magnus Carlsson and Garth Mulroy, also from South Africa, where all three golfers were sitting with 13-under-par aggregate of 271, Sterne managed to two-putt for birdie on the last hole, where his pair of competitors could only manage to make par, leaving them to share the second place of this tournament.

This is the third victory for Sterne on the European Tour following his win of the Madrid Open in 2004 and the Wales Open last year in 2007.

On his promising golfing career, Sterne comments,” I've still got a lot to learn but this is a great way to start the year. I'm in the Masters at Augusta for the first time this year, which should be a lot of fun.”

With this key victory in his career, currently ranked at number 44 in the world, Richard Sterne will now enter the 30s, getting the opportunity to prove himself against great talents like Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.

This golfer is one to surely keep an eye on as we expect great things from him in the future.
