KINGSTON TAKES THE VODACOM CHAMPIONSHIP

18 February 2008 – It was South African James Kingston who took the victory by two strokes at the Vodacom Championship this Sunday at the Pretoria Country Club.

The final three holes saw Kingston take a 65, beating Adilson da Silva, who took second position with a 71 on 15-under par, on 17-under.

On 14-under par, placing in third position, were Andre Cruse and Brandon Pieters.

Da Silva, who had s teady lead in the second round, lost his momentum in the last and final round yesterday, scoring bogeys on both the 13 and 14th holes, and, ultimately, handing the title for this championship over to Kingston.

Commenting Kingston said, "I always thought there was a chance. Adilson played solid all week, but I know what that pressure is like. Somewhere you hit one or two bad shots and you start questioning yourself. I was in the fortunate position where I was chasing all week. It's much easier to come from behind than to lead, and it was nice to finish like that."

Also having a splendid day yesterday was Hennie Otto, who won the Vodacom Swing, and who walked away with a whopping R100 000 bonus from the sponsor.
