VICTORY FOR WOODS AT DUBAI DESERT CLASSIC

4 February 2008 – It was yesterday that Tiger Woods claimed the victory of the Dubai Desert Classic, over his biggest competition of the day, Ernie Els, with a 25-foot birdie putt on the last hole.

It was really only until producing a 6-under par 31 that Woods’ game started looking up, making him a more prominent contender in this golf tournament.

A greatly disappointed Els, who had been leading the tournament thus far, with only three holes left to play, missed birdie putts on holes 16 and 17, plunged himself into a tied third position with golfer Oosthuizen after hitting his ball into the water on the 18th green.

Finishing 2nd with a round of 66, just one stroke behind Woods, at 13-under, was Germany’s own up-coming star Martin Kaymer.

On the 18th hole, Woods managed to hit a 5-wood through the par-5 green, showing a flash of temper as his chip back from a bad lie at the edge of the green came up short.

Referring to the last hole, Woods said, "I could have put that chip right back in the water at 18 and I just had to hit it short".
